MTC Partners with Blue Systems to Transform Bay Area Bikeshare Data Management

Los Angeles, CA – June 13, 2025 – The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) has selected Blue Systems as its official data partner to power a smarter, more efficient bikeshare program across the Bay Area in Northern California. Using Blue Systems’ industry-leading Smart Mobility Platform as a centralized data hub, MTC is modernizing how it monitors, regulates, and plans bikeshare services beginning with San Mateo, San Francisco, Alameda, Marin, and Sonoma Counties and expanding throughout the region.

This partnership places cutting-edge data tools directly in the hands of the MTC, enabling them to visualize and act on real-time mobility insights while harmonizing bikeshare integration across jurisdictions.

A Smart Platform for Smarter Bikeshare Decisions

At the core of this transformation is Blue Systems’ Smart Mobility Platform– a cloud-based hub that streamlines shared mobility operations, enhances oversight, and informs strategic planning. Leveraging the OMF’s Mobility Data Specification (MDS) standard, which Blue Systems helped develop, the platform ingests Lyft’s BayWheels trip and fleet data from all MTC jurisdictions into a single, powerful dashboard which provides key performance indicators such as daily, weekly and monthly trip counts, areas served or underserved by bikeshare services, number of bikes deployed at any given time, each station performance over time and service heatmaps for usage patterns.

The platform also offers historical data analysis to identify trends and inform policy development and future stations deployment.  By leveraging MDS, MTC is able to take advantage of a much fuller and richer datasets and analytics, than what General Bikeshare Feed Specification (GBFS) allows, enabling the enactment of tailored, data-driven rules.

The partnership between Blue Systems and MTC addresses critical objectives for bikeshare management in the Bay Area, including:
